Blogs are… back? Maybe? I’ve felt inspired lately to finally start a blog. Mainly due to the fact that I’ve been hugely influenced (and comforted and taught) by Rebecca Green’s work and her blog. I wanted a place to dump some of my thoughts, processes, and announcements as I forge ahead into the messiness of creating art and also being a mom/human. Lately, I have become disenchanted with Instagram, which used to be my outlet for such things—I feel as though it’s become less about art and more about money. So here I am, back to basics—blogging (to be completely honest, the word “blog” alone used to make me feel bleh, but I think I just hadn’t found the right blogs to follow yet). Even if no one reads this, I can’t help but feel like it will become an important practice for my work.
I am currently in the middle of my very first OFFICIAL children’s book! I’ll be able to share more about it once it’s finished this upcoming Fall. It’s called ‘Beloved’ and so far, the process has gone surprisingly smooth and I’m having more fun than I thought! (I usually get very stressed while in the middle of a large project like this, but wow the power of self-imposed deadlines you guys—who knew…).
So, yes. This will be a little place to explore the spaces in-between, as I stumble my way through art, work, raising a child, and all the other mysteries of life. I’ll more than likely sprinkle in a few non-work related endeavors too, as I never can manage to stay on one topic anyways. I’m also excited to share more of my sewing endeavors! Sewing is something that brings me immense joy.
I feel like there are a million more things I could spill onto this page as I reflect and am still processing this past year (as all of us are), but I don’t believe it’s the time or place for that from me just yet. I’m still trying to figure out my blogging groove, you know? So I’ll just say this—the flowers are finally blooming and the sun is currently shining and I’m ready to MAKE SOME ART.
Sending much love into the world! And if you feel so inclined, sign up for my upcoming newsletter that I plan to roll out later this year. I hope you find some light today and give some light to someone else.
with love, Hilary
P.S. Here is my little studio space at home that I am very grateful for:
